What is online college?

Many colleges and universities now offer courses, degrees (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral), and graduate certificates as fully online programs. Students attend classes using their computer from anywhere – all you need is an internet connection. When you enroll as an online student with CSU, you learn with the same faculty as on campus and receive many of the same resources and services.

The online student experience

A 2018 study conducted by Learning House, Inc., showed 85% of students who had previously enrolled in both face-to-face and online courses felt their online experience was either the same or better than the classroom course.

Online learning gets better each year.

Modern technology makes it much easier for students to participate in collaborative online learning. Dedicated course designers specialize in creating courses – using state of the art technology – that encourage and enable collaboration and interaction. Increasingly, instructors and students have access to user-friendly communications and data-sharing tools.

Online learning continues to close the gap between in-person experiences and online experiences. If you’re considering an online program, make sure you get all the details for the program you’re considering.

Enhanced interactivity

Online course content often combines short video lectures, visual presentations, images, articles, case studies, data visualizations, and other interactive learning content. Students and instructors build relationships and collaborate online, just as they would in person.

Flexibility makes it possible

Learners like you value the flexibility and autonomy of online education. Being able to balance academics with career and family obligations often means the difference between furthering your education or not. If you’re considering an online program, remember to look at overall course delivery. Is it asynchronous – learning on your own time? Or synchronous – where you attend classes in real-time? Or is it a mix of both?

Learning management systems

Curious how you learn online? Modern learning management systems (LMS) are software applications built with online learners in mind. These applications enable the creation and delivery of educational coursework, creating interactive virtual learning environments. CSU uses the Canvas LMS.
