Our work and impact across Colorado

In the Office of Engagement and Extension, we work in partnership with communities, organizations, policymakers, and many others across Colorado. At the foundation of our work is an understanding of evolving community needs and our roles as a partner.

Our impact reports and features highlight the work of our faculty and staff around the state and ways we are supporting community needs and priorities.

The National Land-Grant Impacts Database (NIDB) is a repository of the land-grant system’s collective impact statements across research, education, and Extension.

CSU Extension

Where university meets community

Colorado State University Extension serves all 64 counties statewide, strengthening CSU’s land-grant mission by connecting the university to communities where we learn and work together to exchange, develop, and apply knowledge through teaching, research, and service – so that individuals and communities thrive.

Community needs assessment

At the foundation of our work is an understanding of evolving community needs and our roles as a partner working and innovating with Coloradans to co-create knowledge and science-informed solutions.

In 2026 we are launching a statewide community needs assessment to learn more about changing local community needs and to identify the potential areas of highest-priority education, research, and partnership, as well as inform future programming. The survey is planned to include a statewide survey; secondary data review; and community conversation opportunities. Learn more about the survey process.

Our last statewide needs assessment was conducted in 2020 and identified the need for expanding Extension’s work in health programming and resources around the state.

Public officials survey

We also learn by inviting state and local public officials to provide insights about CSU’s programs across the state. We receive input about Extension offerings and changing community needs and opportunities. We use these insights to inform our planning processes and to gather feedback on our progress.
